FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Mount Pearl, Newfoundland and Labrador — February 19, 2026
The Heather Cutler Foundation is proud to announce that it has officially been granted charitable status by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), effective February 19, 2026. This designation marks a significant milestone for the Newfoundland and Labrador–based organization and enables the Foundation to expand its programs, strengthen partnerships, and pursue sustainable funding to support individuals and families affected by pancreatic cancer.
The Foundation was established in response to the loss of founder Christopher Cutler’s mother to pancreatic cancer and has grown over the past year from a grassroots initiative into a structured nonprofit organization focused on patient support, public education, and advocacy. With federal charitable registration now in place, the organization is formally recognized under the Income Tax Act as a registered charity. The organization’s registered charity number is 743014227 RR 0001.
Charitable status allows the Foundation to:
- Issue official charitable tax receipts for eligible donations
- Apply for federal, provincial, and private grant funding
- Build long-term partnerships with healthcare, academic, and community organizations
- Expand educational and patient-support programming across Newfoundland and Labrador and beyond
The Foundation’s core charitable activities include providing financial assistance to patients who must travel for treatment, delivering evidence-based pancreatic cancer education and prevention information, and hosting workshops and public programs on access to care, treatment pathways, and clinical trials.
“This is a defining moment for the Foundation,” said Christopher Cutler, Founder and Director. “Achieving charitable status allows us to move from early-stage operations into long-term program delivery and sustainability. It strengthens our ability to support patients and families while building the partnerships and funding required to grow responsibly.”
To support this next phase of growth, the Foundation is currently working with EnTec Consulting in partnership with the NL Business Centre through the Consulting Advisory Services (CAS) program to develop a comprehensive multi-year business and strategic plan. This structured planning process will guide governance, program expansion, fundraising strategy, and long-term sustainability as the organization scales responsibly.
Over the past year, the Foundation has established a board of directors, expanded its volunteer base, and participated in nonprofit capacity-building initiatives to ensure strong governance and operational readiness. The newly launched strategic planning process will further strengthen its ability to deliver measurable impact across Newfoundland and Labrador, with long-term ambitions to grow regionally and nationally.
With charitable registration now secured, the Foundation will begin formal fundraising, grant applications, and program expansion throughout 2026.
Community members, healthcare professionals, and organizations interested in partnering with the Foundation or supporting its work are encouraged to get in touch.
