The World Pancreatic Cancer Coalition (WPCC) is a global alliance of organizations dedicated to driving transformational change for all those affected by pancreatic cancer. Founded in 2016, the WPCC has grown significantly since its inception, now bringing together over 100 member organizations representing 40 countries worldwide.

Mission and Goals

The WPCC’s primary mission is to:

  • Increase visibility of pancreatic cancer globally
  • Raise awareness about symptoms and risk factors
  • Advance pancreatic cancer research
  • Improve outcomes and enhance quality of life for patients
  • Strengthen the collective impact of member organizations

Key Initiatives

Science & Education

The WPCC is committed to continuing education for its members, fostering collaboration, and sharing best practices. This initiative strengthens the collective knowledge base and improves the quality of support provided to patients and families affected by pancreatic cancer.

World Pancreatic

Cancer Day (WPCD)

Held annually on November 17th, WPCD is a global initiative to raise awareness about pancreatic cancer. Launched in 2014, this one-day social media campaign brings together organizations and individuals worldwide to generate a global conversation about the disease. The campaign has seen significant success, with over 400,000 people engaging on social media during recent events.

Impact and Growth

Since its founding, the WPCC has experienced remarkable growth:

  • Membership has increased from 40 organizations at the inaugural meeting to over 100 today
  • Country representation has expanded from 24 to more than 40 nations
  • The annual World Pancreatic Cancer Day campaign has gained international attention, with landmarks worldwide being illuminated in purple to show support

Collaboration and Partnerships

The WPCC facilitates:

  • Sharing of resources and best practices
  • Partnerships between organizations within and across countries
  • Amplification of individual organization efforts
  • Consistent messaging and data dissemination about pancreatic cancer

Future Outlook

As the WPCC continues to grow and evolve, it remains focused on its core mission of improving outcomes for pancreatic cancer patients worldwide. By leveraging the collective strength of its member organizations, sharing best practices, and driving global awareness campaigns, the coalition aims to accelerate progress in research, early detection, and treatment of pancreatic cancer.

The success of initiatives like World Pancreatic Cancer Day and the expansion of educational programs demonstrate the WPCC’s commitment to making a lasting impact in the fight against one of the world’s deadliest cancers. As the coalition enters its second decade, it stands poised to continue its vital work in uniting global efforts and creating a brighter future for all those affected by pancreatic cancer.
